Why The Atomic Bomb Was Needed
1)If USA hadn't dropped the atomic bombs, we wouldn't have the knowledge on the effects of, or how to prevent a nuclear war today.
- Had the atomic bombs not been dropped, there would have been no possible way to understand the long term effects of the bomb, due to the lack of room for testing a bomb that large. Without dropping, the world would be lacking in knowledge of atomic bombs, what they cause, and how to prevent global nuclear warfare.
- Although the bombings caused many losses of lives for the Japanese, if the Allies had attacked anyways as they were bound to, in order to end the war, both sides would have lost around twice the number of deaths than the bombings caused. This was mainly due to the fact that the Japanese soldier's code constricted them to extreme perseverance and no surrenders.
- All Japanese soldiers were instructed to follow a certain code of honor for lifetime, and one of the rules was never to surrender. Japanese military officers had ordered their soldiers during WWII to “not surrender, even in the face of insuperable odds.” The bombs saved many lives so war did not have to be continued for long after.
- To end the war in our favor, the bombs were a necessity. Most can agree that if they had not been dropped, the fighting would have been prolonged due to the resistance of surrender of Japanese soldiers.
- After the bombings, the Soviet Union understood that America was not to be messed with. The bombs also warned the USSR that even though both countries were part of the allies, that USA was the stronger link. This message caused the Soviet Union to back off from fighting for the right to be the sole occupant of Japan.
- The allies had been planning to attack Japan one way or another, with or without the nuclear weapons. Once the Allies invaded, they would have used firebombs either way.
